Integrated Women's Health

Women take on the most beautiful roles in the world, from being mothers and daughters to being professionals and workers. Every woman has the right to live a healthy life. The first step is to identify the various health risks you may face. Even if a woman feels healthy and has no health complaints, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need regular health checkups.

It’s truly unfortunate that women often put their health needs on the back burner for the sake of their careers and families. Now is the time for a change; women need to strive for optimal health. Here are two recommended health screenings based on age group.

PAP SMEAR

The Papanicolaou (Pap) test is a cervical screening method used to detect potential precancerous changes or cancer in the cervix. The Pap test is recommended for all women between the ages of 21 and 65 and can be performed at a doctor’s office or clinic. During the Pap test procedure, the doctor will use a plastic or metal instrument called a speculum to open the vaginal opening. This instrument helps the doctor examine the vagina and cervix, as well as collect a sample of cells and mucus from the cervix and the surrounding area. The cell sample is then placed on a microscope slide or in a container filled with liquid to be sent to a laboratory. The laboratory will examine the sample to ensure that the cells are normal.

A Pap smear is highly effective in detecting abnormalities in the cervix. The procedure can be performed by a family doctor, an obstetrician-gynecologist, or a trained midwife. It takes only a few minutes, and results are usually available within about 3 to 7 days. This screening test can detect abnormal cells so that treatment can be administered before those cells develop into cancer. The only type of cancer detected through a Pap test is cervical cancer. The Pap smear is the most common procedure performed at this clinic. Before the test, you’ll have a consultation for your health’s sake, and you’ll be prepared beforehand before the procedure begins.

When was the last time you had a Pap smear?
